My name is Jella and I’m a Finnish food blogger, content creator, food photographer and art teacher. This blog is published in Finnish and in English.
About me
I started writing this food blog in August 2013. The blog is called Vaimomatskuu, which means “wife material” in Finnish. The decision to start blogging was very impulsive – my first post was out already the next day! Not a lot of time was spent with naming the blog either… A long story short, I’d recently gotten divorced and thought “wife material” was a hilarious name for my blog. A stereotypical home maker I’m certainly not, but I sure love to cook!
As long as someone else does the dishes.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Since those early days I’ve happily remarried, but cooking is still a big love of my life. It’s a creative outlet for me, a daily source of joy and enjoyment. Cliché or not, I live to eat!
My typical recipe includes an eclectic mix of seasonal and local ingredients, lots of veggies and a creative combination of flavors. I’m an omnivore, but having lived most of my adult years as vegetarian, cooking plant based food comes naturally to me. I care deeply about sustainability, ecological and ethical issues in all aspects of my life.
I enjoy creative cooking, challenges and problem solving! Some of the best recipes I’ve created were made from random ingredients in my pantry, when I was feeling too lazy to walk to the store. When I develop a new recipe, I lean into my intuition, knowledge and know-how gathered passionately since childhood. I’m enthusiastic about all things related to food, be it new ingredients, cooking techniques or a specific dish I’ve fallen in love with. I love to research and educate myself every day to be a better cook!
Having said all that, cooking can often be an immersive process for me. This means that sometimes my posts are also a mile long! But regardless of the depth or length of my posts, the point here at Vaimomatskuu food blog is always to come up with something delicious. And to have fun while cooking it! I hope you enjoy the results as much as I do ♥
